The few one offs I do around the year. I just prefer spending my time at the food bank mainly.

The Halloween party

It was mom's late day, so we were waiting for a handyman to winterize the swamp cooler and turn on the heat. I couldn't do it since me and heights don't get along. We acquired coffee from a chain, and I enjoyed my pumpkin cream chai. The garage door had been acting funky chicken q recently. It was a pain trying to get it to close when we were leaving for coffee. My new shoes have rubbing against the bottom of both big toe toenails, so I was hoping that the moleskin would help.

The handyman eventually came by, I accidentally put in the air filter wrong because I wasn't paying attention. At least, I have heat now. I was listening to a Wartime Stories episode when I decided to head to a grocery store. I got really happy to see Walmart carrying my beloved vanilla chai again. I bought new batteries for the garage door just in case. I wasn't sure if that was the issue. I lazed around for a bit when I got back home. I changed the battery on the opener, and I kept accidentally opening and closing the door when putting it back together.

I slowly got ready for the event. I had to place my moogle kigurumi in the biggest bag I have. The app was acting so silly as usual. All three of us passengers were going to the transit center. The bus took me to the downtown transit center so I could catch the second one. The downtown transit center is an interesting place with interesting people roaming around. The design is reminiscent of a railroad hotel that used to be there on the land. I usually try to avoid getting off there, but love the area. I might take the Amtrack or Rail Bouncer there one day to try it out.

I rarely catch the 16 bus, but when I do, it's on the latter half of its route. So I was a bit confused about where the stop was since Google and the transit center map said two different things. Google ended up being right because it was a small curb with a bench. I should have known since there were people standing there.

I cut through the grass to get to the back of the building. It was a really tiny Halloween party. There was a small section of trunk or treat cars. All the trunks were really cute. My favorites were the cookie monster one with the couple that wore the chef uniforms, and one with fake skeletons of animals, accompanied with a banner that read "No fur? No fluff? No problem! Undead Friends petting zoo.". Next to that was the food station. They had pizza from a local board game pizza place, grocery store cupcakes, popcorn, drinks, and snowcones. To the side of that area was the prizes for the games the kids played.

I wasn't much help setting up tbh. I helped carry some of the pizza and the cupcakes. I transformed into my moogle kigurumi quickly. I then wormed my way into just handing out cupcakes because my popcorn making skills were 50/50, the snow cone position was taken, and it looked like an easy job. It was very slow in general because pizza and snowcones were the most popular. Even the lady handing out pizza was surprised. I must have missed out on the snow cone loving gene because I wasn't a big fan of them when I was a kid. Even as an adult, I am not, but I like the ice by itself. I had to keep changing gloves because I kept getting frosting on them. It even got on my outfit a bit. Two kids from the shelter were going to town getting people to take some popcorn.

I had brief conversations with the older gentleman who was good with the kids who did the popcorn and the lady handing out the pizza. Some guy who wanted a cupcake thought my costume was a Gremlin and wasn't colorful. I had to eventually shed my costume because it got too hot. I even ate a plain snowcone to cool down. The kid kept asking if I wanted any flavor.

One of the staff's husband called himself Roaming Roman and wore a DIY costume hosted the games. It was fun to see all the costumes. The older gentleman and I were asked to be a costume judge. To keep it fair, and I am not sure if anyone else wanted to do it, they picked two kids from the trunk or trunk cars to be ones too. It was by school level. I remember a browser(Mario), a girl in a cloud dress, and a buff Einstein won. I was terrible at keeping the suspense since I kept pointing. The announcer even made a joke about it. I had a high school Waldo come and complain about not winning. I ate and then had to catch the bus. I felt bad that I couldn't stay and help clean up. One of the staff members told me that I am part of the team and come again. I almost forgot my costume.

Two of the kids told me goodbye as I passed their parent's car. I had a bit of a walk to get to the stop. I realize that there were other buses I could have taken, but it was easier to follow Google maps. I had a bit of a wait. I had a guy ask me if I was just visiting town, I explained what I just did, and he called me a good samaritan. I can't remember the ride back.

Costume giveaway

I spent most of the morning refining my latest a few weeks behind food bank post. I take forever to write since my brain is always a scramble in the mornings. I decided to put a dark chocolate peanut butter cup in my coffee this morning. It wasn't too bad, especially with the vanilla chai I buy. There was some loud argument outside where I couldn't make out what was being said. It was either a kid or a loud feminine voice.

I tried to leave early, and the connect van app kept acting funky chicken q and made me wait 40 minutes. I had to just move to one of the bus stops to get it to work, and I was going to be a little late. The driver even was like, "What a weird pickup.". I hopped on the bus and headed to the second bus stop for a bus that never came. The only bus that passed by was the one that goes from the university to fancy mall on the rich side of town. So I had to call a lyft to drive me 5 mins to the location because it was 1 hour and 30 mins walk just to get there. It wasn't a big deal that I was late, but I was 22 minutes late still.

The walk of nothing

I didn't expect this to be a 300-person event. The last one I went to was mainly transit staff or city workers and was much smaller. I continued watching a youtuber play code veronica while I had my coffee. It's quite a charming game. It inspired me to put RE1 and RE3 on my psp after I threw RE2 on it a few days ago. Dipping my feet into things that I am not usually into is fun sometimes. Claire is goat, and Steve is just a silly turkey. I hope the remake is great.

It's impossible to get to the airship park on the weekend. It's usually a 53-minute walk from the bus stop. I got permanently sunburned last time I did it, so I decided to take a lyft instead. The driver and I chatted about if it's better to see a movie in the theater or read a book. He said he often falls asleep at movies, which I think is a waste of money with the prices of theaters nowadays. I replied that I can't read multi-chaptered things generally anymore. I am too sensitive to noise when I read. We also gossiped about all the road construction going on. It's terrible timing, especially with one of the biggest tourist events coming up soon.

I had the lyft drop me off at a local coffee chain Raft's near the location. I had to pick a random one because there is no description for the lattes. It sucks when they only post a description on social media promoting the drink. I got the Mi Amor Latte and headed off on a 15-minute walk. Even though I was 30 minutes early, there was already a long volunteer check-in line. They had breakfast burritos from a place I had never heard of, but I didn't take one. I was behind one couple, and the lady scolded me for putting my plastic cup in the trash. I mean, I had my nasty germs on it. There is no saving it at all. I got checked in and just got a shirt and hat. I have never known the glory of the sun hat. It is totally life changing. My hair hates hats, but it will be a life saver if I remember to take it in the future.

The event staff did their little speech, and the news was there. My back was very prominent in the article photo before they finalized the video. The video only has two shots of my back. I sped off to the first golf cart, and I was in a trio of people who came alone. There were 3 different locations they would drop you off and the driver took us to the big park. The other two mentioned they were there because of a speeding ticket. I roped one of them into chatting with me the whole time. I can't remember all of what we talked about, but he mentioned that he had to take the incentive for some garden work for some farmer market or community garden. He later asked the van driver if the big park rents to non-profits. There were spots of random trash, but with groups of volunteers and not much, it was really boring. The fellow chatter was feeling antsy and tried to move on to another location. The driver wouldn't let him, though, because there were too many volunteers, and it was easier to keep us in one location. I did see a company party for the new concrete mixer balloon going on. I know how to be a lazy volunteer, so I just slacked off. Eventually, it was time, and a white van picked us up. The fellow chatter said it was nice to meet me and went off. Living here, you never know what interesting people you will meet.

I had to wait for another lyft to pick me up. The GPS tried to take her into the park, and the security guards almost jumped on the car. She was really nice, she wished that she was my age again and called me a smart girl because I don't have a boyfriend. That's all I can remember from the day

The film festival

9/23:Not one of my best volunteer days. I feel bad now, lol.

I kept waking up for various reasons. I ended up forcing myself awake at 5 am ish. I typically listen to music at night to sleep, and I got tired of my usual soulsborne, n64 and ps1 relaxing ad free mixes. I started listening to a dreamcast mix instead, and now I have Code Veronica save room music stuck inside my head. I tried to figure out coding more, but no luck yet. I want to figure out how to add a scroll bar to the side section of the index page and change each pages mouse. It's very frustrating stuff.

I had to rope myself out of bed this morning. Took the connect van to the transit center, very safe driver. I hopped on the normal bus, and some lady kept trying to enter through the back door. She ended up getting left. I overheard some guy speaking to his lawyer about some messy divorce. That's a very awkward time, lol. Later, a loud kid got on the bus, and I don't hate kids, but man, some can be so loud! I really need to buy some good earplugs with my sensitive hearing. I wanted to work more on this site, but my brain felt like sloppy Joe's. When I got to the theater, there was two film festival staff waiting out there. Originally, they were going to have us meet at either an alley or some other spot nearby. It got changed a week and something before. I arrived early and had a brief chat with the staff before I left to get some coffee. The local coffee chain's line was pretty long, so I was a little late heading back.

There wasn't much loading to be done. I think I even broke a piece of wood with my foot for the event when setting down a decoration. After waiting around for a bit, I was plopped making swag bags. The person who was in charge of it was pretty intense. I lied to them because I was trying to count, and they said "That's should be enough." I had no clue if they were talking to me and just chose a random number when they asked. Eventually, a girl around my age and a bit older lady joined us. The girl volunteered to do some networking, and the lady volunteered to go the festival. It's just that I am not a neat person, so I needed to make sure that I was doing it right, lol. The festival was kind to order us lunch from a local chain while we were working. The bags I did probably looked terrible inside still. The truth of my miscounting lie came to light, and it was a mess. The head honcho was busy counting and fixing the insides. My lie forced them to take the black bag out of the vip ones. I didn't get in trouble, but I ate my lunch.

One of the staff was talking to the girl around my age next to me, and the girl mentioned she had just graduated from the local university last year after the staff member asked. My social beans ran out, and I left after the two other volunteers left.

9/27:I didn't time it right, and the van was a bit slow getting to the transit center. So I had to take a lyft there, and the driver got a little lost. I had to wave him to me. The driver just dropped me off on the side street so he didn't have to deal with traffic. I was really worried about being late there, but it didn't really matter in the end. There were too many volunteers, so 2 or 3 of them went home. The venue was pretty cute for it is. They had little to work with.

I was partnered with a lady who was much more involved with volunteering than me from what she said. She gave out badges starting with A-K, and I gave out badges starting with L-Z. We also gave out those bags I caused trouble with to VIPs. Quite a few university students showed up since it was free for them with their school ID. There was a bit of confusion at first, with some having badges, but it worked out. I chatted with her a bit, and I only remember two things we talked about. She asked what is the best thing to donate to the food bank. I honestly told her time and money. She thought my prosopagnosia was a different condition that she heard about in some documentary. I laughed and told her that I am just better at recognizing voices.

Because there weren't a lot of people watching, they sent a group of us to watch a documentary called "Goddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine.". My badge partner was kind enough to buy me some popcorn, and then we sat next to each other. I really like hanging out by myself, but it is nice to be around people once in a while. There were some audio problems at first, so they had to restart the beginning section. It was really interesting, I had never heard of her before. I tried to find one song I really liked from it, but it was impossible with all the record label problems. During the Q&A section, it turns out the plan was going to have her do a comeback tour, and they had some funding from different organizations. As soon she died, they pulled out, and the director is struggling to find a distributor. It was cut short because of the time, but I made sure to give my compliments to the director. As I was leaving the theater, some lady looked familiar and waved at me.

I really enjoyed it, so I decided to see the shorts documentaries later. We head back to the main venue. The volunteer manager offered to let me go to some panel after I mentioned that I felt sad I would miss some events. I am not really interested in talks like that, so I declined. I got bored and forced myself into the other table conversation. Eventually, the volunteer manager's chef friend who made us sandwiches and a few side dishes arrived with a cooler. I asked for no lettuce, but they didn't take it off. The sandwhich and the corn were pretty meh tbh.

Slowly, it was time for me to head back to the indie theater for the shorts. I thanked everyone, and the volunteer manager recommended for me to come back next year. I secretly took my badge because they wanted people to recycle them for next year. I got into my seat, but I overhead that my head might be in the way for a lady. The husband sounded rude about it, I overheard him asking if where I sat was in her way. It's a tiny auditorium. I turned around a few times. The documentaries were Dale, Shura, Interception, and 1001 cuts. I also really enjoyed them. I did completed the volunteer experience survey that came a few days after. I also saw one of media manager while waiting for the bus stop on the last day and she waved to me as she passed by
